Duterte is known for regularly visiting his parents' resting place on Undas, election days, and their birthdays and death anniversaries.
His father, Vicente, was the last governor of the undivided Davao and had served and was the Cabinet Secretary for General Services of late dictator Ferdinand Marcos.
Duterte's mother, Soledad, was a teacher involved in the socio-civic projects of her husband. She led Davao's Yellow Friday Movement, which was crucial to the success of the EDSA Revolution that toppled Marcos' rule.
Duterte is known to be close to his mother Soledad. Video captured by ABS-CBN News showed him crying at his mother's grave hours after partial vote tallies showed his unassailable lead in the May 9 presidential race.
BE TRUE SERVANTS
In his All Saints' Day message, the President called on Filipinos to forsake worldly temptations as they pay respect to their departed loved ones.
Duterte urged Filipinos, particularly the government workers, to be "true servant-leaders" and work not for themselves, but for the future generations.
He also urged the public to continue pursuing genuine change and push for the best interests of the people.
"I hope that we cherish with fondness, love, and gratitude the spiritual inheritance left by our ancestors and loved ones on their special day. May the nation receive the blessings of God as we exalt and emulate the holy men and women whose lives have inspired generations" he said.
