Sara Duterte backtracks, won't sack Davao cop chief

CHANGE OF HEART. Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on Thursday said she will no longer replace the chief of the Davao City Police Office, Senior Superintendent Michael John Dubria.

Revoking her earlier decision, Duterte said: "He (Dubria) can stay, he will learn, he should feel the pain."
Duterte added that she backtracked on Dubria's relief because she does not want to install a new police chief who could not share her pain over the deadly bombing.
"I have reconsidered my earlier decision and I now want Dubria to stay," she said.
"It will be easy for him to transfer to another post and forget what happened the night of September 2, 2016 in Davao City. But, after careful thought, I want him to stay and feel the pain I feel everyday. A new City Director would not understand this feeling."
Dubria's relief was delayed as the Philippine National Police (PNP) headquarters scrambled to draw a list of possible replacements.
Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa only submitted the list to Duterte earlier today.
The mayor said she no longer needed the list, which included Senior Superintendents Antonino Yarra, Albert Ocon and Milo Pagtalunan.
Duterte earlier admitted that she had a disagreement with her father, President Rodrigo Duterte, over the relief of Dubria and the former chief of Task Force Davao, Col. Henry Robinson Jr.
Robinson has accepted the mayor's decision.
The Department of Justice on Tuesday found probable cause to file criminal charges against three people being linked to the bombing.
